Why Consider Viking Appliances?

Viking was founded in 1987 by Fred Carl, Jr. Carl was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, and is the 4th generation in a family line made up of builders and designers. Except for two years spent in the Navy during the Vietnam War, Carl has spent his entire life in Mississippi. Throughout his Viking tenure, Carl purchased and restored 20 buildings in his hometown, where Viking appliance company remains headquartered today.

Inspired by his wife’s request to ‘find a better stove’, Carl began to design upscale kitchen appliances in the early 1980s. He realized early on that having high-quality domestic kitchens would mean bringing high-quality commercial cooking technology into the home. This was a road filled with obstacles, from safety issues, to manufacturing roadblocks, but Carl was determined. He spent several years working on his designs and finding the perfect manufacturer: a small commercial range manufacturer in southern California. In 1984, Viking was incorporated, and in 1987, after a series of manufacturing reshuffles, the first models shipped. In 2012, Carl sold Viking to Middleby Corporation, a publicly-traded commercial appliance manufacturer headquartered in Ohio.

Due to their high-performance, high-quality, and unique look, which included an array of colors to compliment any kitchen design, Viking appliances quickly became popular with high-end customers who wanted something special for their homes. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Viking expanded their appliance manufacturing facilities, and added to their catalogue of appliances with ventilation systems, refrigerators, dishwashers, and outdoor cooking appliances.

Many celebrities enjoy Viking appliances at home. You can also see Viking on TV: Ina Garten uses a Viking range to create her signature recipes. Dr. Oz entrusts his onset cooking segments to his Viking range, too!

Are Viking Appliances Good?

Throughout their history, Viking appliances have been synonymous with quality, performance and luxury. Over the past 5 years, Middleby Corp has put a lot of effort into reinvigorating and reenergizing the Viking brand. They have revamped their product line, and reengineered 85% of their products. They also now offer one of the best warranties in the industry. These changes have garnered Viking Range dozens of awards and mentions from around the industry, including Good Housekeeping’s ‘Best Electric Ranges for Your Kitchen’, and USA Today’s ‘Editor’s Choice’.

Is Viking Considered a High-End Brand?

Viking got its start designing appliances for the scrupulous and selective Beverly Hills market. Ever since, it has been the one of the most widely-recognized, sought-after, and well-respected brands in the premium appliance industry. To protect this high-level of quality, Viking appliances are only sold through a network of premium appliance dealers, such as Designer Appliances.

Who Makes Viking and Where are they Located?

Today, Viking is owned by Middleby Corporation, a publicly-traded commercial appliance manufacturer located in Ohio, though Viking’s main headquarters remains in Greenwood, Mississippi. Their appliances are manufactured in facilities throughout Mississippi, except for their dishwashers, which are imported from Blomberg in Turkey, as well as their freestanding refrigerators, which are manufactured by Electrolux.
